Valuing Equality & Diversity

Equality and Diversity Statement:

From November 2011 NHS Norfolk and NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney formed a PCT cluster with one Board, one Chief Executive and one Chair. Whilst both PCTs remain separate accountable bodies, equality is managed by one post on behalf of the Cluster, NHS Norfolk and Waveney.
NHS Norfolk and Waveney are committed to developing an organisational culture that promotes Equality and Diversity. As a public authority it has a legal obligation under the Equality Act 2010 to promote equality of opportunity, foster good relations and eliminate discrimination in relation to the protected groups of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation. We have developed strategies and plans in line with current legislation that set out how we meet the duties.

NHS Norfolk and Waveney aspires to go beyond legal compliance to become an exemplar organisation in relation to our business and equality and human rights. Equality and Human Rights will become an integral part of NHS Norfolk and Waveney’s organisational culture. This will be measured through analysing the impact of our commissioning decisions and publication of key performance information on our website.
We are committed to ensuring that all our staff have the skills, knowledge and support to commission services that are fair and equitable whist respecting individual needs regardless of their protected characteristic.

Public Sector Equality Duty Objectives

In 2011 NHS Norfolk and NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney formed a “PCT Cluster”. Whilst each PCT remains a separate statutory body, we have one team of staff, one management team and one Board of Directors. Our PCT Cluster is known as NHS Norfolk and Waveney; we serve just under a million people and have a combined budget in excess of £1.64 billion.

Although NHS Norfolk and Waveney are two ‘accountable’ PCTs; equality objectives and compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty are managed by one post on behalf of both Trusts and have therefore been integrated.

We will continue to develop our equality objectives, EDS priorities, the evidence we use to inform our plans and how this is available on our websites.

NHS Equality Delivery System Outcomes Framework (2011-2013)
NHS Norfolk and Waveney remain committed to developing an organisational culture that promotes Equality and Diversity, and to ensuring that future NHS organisations are equipped to meet their duties relating to equality and human rights placed upon them by equality legislation. We therefore welcome the opportunity to publish our Equality Delivery System Outcomes Framework (2011 – 2013) and Annual Improvement Plan.
This Framework sets out our long term commitment to equality, diversity, human rights and community cohesion and it will be monitored against robust evidence of compliance and regularly refreshed to ensure its relevance.
