Abortion: your options
An abortion is the medical process of ending a pregnancy.
It is important to act quickly if you think you may be pregnant and are considering termination of the pregnancy.
You can buy a home pregnancy testing kit at most pharmacies (or ask the pharmacy to do the test for you). Free pregnancy testing is available at all family planning clinics. Some pharmacies and GP surgeries also provide free testing, but check first because not all do.
If you are considering termination of the pregnancy speak to your GP or family planning clinic. They can offer help and advice, as well as referral for a termination of pregnancy assessment, if you wish to go ahead. Alternatively, some pharmacies are able to signpost you for assessment. Advice and counselling is also offered by some voluntary organisations.
For more information on the options available to you, visit the NHS Choices website.
