Keeping kids fitter and healthier
There are programmes to help people become fitter, healthier and happier.
They are fun, free and they really work.
Under 5s
HENRY
(Health, Exercise, Nutrition for the Really Young)
HENRY is an exciting project to support families with children aged 2-5yrs to reach and maintain a healthy weight.
We have trained over 50 community and health practitioners to work with parents and young families across the NHS Norfolk and Waveney area. ‘Let’s Get Healthy with HENRY’ courses for groups of parents and carers are available at a Children’s Centre near you.
HENRY Training Courses
A two year programme of HENRY training courses came to an end in April 2012. The HENRY approach demonstrates an effective way of addressing healthy weight in children and the training course is a practical and enjoyable way of practising new skills in a safe, informal environment and is recommended by the Department of Health. The courses are supported by a toolkit of free resources.
No further HENRY courses are planned at this time. For more information, go to the HENRY website.

MEND Weight Management Service
Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do-it!
MEND programmes help children aged 7-13 years old, and their families, learn how to improve their health, fitness, manage their weight better and lead healthier lives.
The MEND programme gets kids healthy and fit in only 10 weeks - and helps them stay that way.
Case study
Isabelle, Hannah and Georgia took part in the last MEND programme held at Carrow Park, Norwich. Here’s what they had to say:
Hannah aged 12 described the programme as "a fun, interactive way to learn new things about how our body reacts to different types of foods and ways in which to exercise with our family and friends."
Georgia aged 12 said: "I really enjoyed the fabulous food festival where I was able to cook one of our new MEND recipes for my friends."
Isabelle aged 11 added: "The opportunity to meet people who are in the same situation I was in was a really big help, I would say I have met some new best friends on this course."
