Mental Health: Workforce skills analysis and development
Project Summary:
“There is no health without mental health”- Royal College of Psychiatrists
In summary this project has achieved two key aims:
- Provided a refreshed understanding of our mental health workforce in Norfolk and Waveney, informing us on how we will need to develop to best meet future service users’ needs
In looking at how we develop the mental health workforce in Norfolk and Waveney, the project lead has considered job descriptions/person specifications, public health data, national guidance, and current training. The final report has been produced and it allows for informed workforce development and strategy going forward.
- To deliver Dementia training to the frontline workforce, supporting staff in their provision of personalised high quality care
Delivering dementia training to those working in frontline services is important in continuing to develop skills that ensure people receive the care that is most appropriate to their individual needs. The project is delivering training to staff at the three acute hospitals in Norfolk and Waveney; Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and the James Paget University Hospital. We have established ‘Dementia Champions’ who will continue to cascade training and awareness beyond the life of the project. We have developed a Dementia Awareness workbook and distributed 2000 copies of it. Also there were support materials provided as part of the training.
