NHS Norfolk staff paddle on for Children in Need
18 November 2009
NHS Norfolk staff have taken to the water to raise funds for Children In Need.
They joined 23 other teams to compete for the Pudsey Paddle Trophy V at Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre (OEC), Whitlingham, Trowse on Friday <November 13>.
The NHS Norfolk team was put together by Justine Hottinger, Health Improvement Specialist.
She said: "We wanted to have some fun and raise money for a good cause, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. We were very pleased to come seventh, and are aiming for the top spot next year!"
Staff collected donations from their colleagues at NHS Norfolk's headquarters on Broadland Business Park. They have raised £231.00 so far.
To top up the Pudsey Paddle money, staff are having a “Dress Down Friday” on Friday <November 20> when they can dress down and donate £1 to Children In Need.
Justine added: "Since people are still donating, we are hopeful of raising even more before Children In Need day on Friday <November 20>. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed."
Each team took part in two races over a 45-minute period at the OEC. Teams crewed dual-hulled canoes in the races, which were over a 200m distance in the pouring rain.
The team did really well with a best time of 2.21 minutes. Everyone who participated or who came down to support the team had a lot of fun for a good cause.
