BME Health Needs Survey
NHS Norfolk has launched the results of its survey on the health needs of BME communities in Norfolk . The survey was commissioned from the UEA to begin to meet the recommendations following our Race for Health Peer Review in 2009.
Breaking Through Top Talent Programme
The aim of the Breaking Through Programme is to support the development of a diverse leadership workforce. The Breaking Through Programme is aimed at those black and minority ethnic staff with the talent and potential to move into senior leadership roles.
Understanding Muslim Ethnic Communities

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NHS Norfolk is signed up to Race for Health, a Department of Health-funded, NHS based programme that works with PCTs and Trusts to drive forward improvements in health for people from black, and minority ethnic backgrounds.
The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 introduced a requirement to conduct Equality Impact assessments. By law all policies and or major service/policy changes that could have an impact on black and minority ethnic (BME) groups need to be assessed. This same principle applies to the needs of all diverse communities including those concerned with gender, disability, sexual orientation, age and faith.
For toolkit, guidance forms and assessments see Equality Impact Assessment section.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are required by law (The Race Relations Act - if the organisation employs over 150 or more full time staff,) to monitor, by ethnicity, the numbers of staff who receive training; who benefit or suffer detriment as a result of its performance assessment procedures, who are involved in grievance procedures; who are the subject of disciplinary procedures; and the numbers of staff who cease employment.
Details of the BME staff network are available on the staff intranet.
In addition we can report for the year that we have had no grievances or disciplinary procedures involving any staff from ethnic backgrounds for the year 2007/08, though one complaint was resolved locally.
Information about our employment practices in relation to staff training uptake and a summary of what the information means and what we need to do about it.
