Self-care
Self-care is the best option when treating very minor ailments.
Make sure you keep your medicine cabinet stocked up with basic medicines to treat minor illnesses and ailments:
- Paracetamol or aspirin,
- Anti-diarrhoeal medicine,
- Rehydration mixture,
- Indigestion mixture,
- Plasters,
- Thermometer.
Call your GP immediately if your child:
- has a temperature of 38C or above or feels hot
and has one of the following symptoms:
- Tiredness,
- Headache,
- Runny nose and sneezing,
- Sore throat,
- Rash,
- Shortness of breath,
- Loss of appetite,
- Diarrhoea, or
- Aching muscles, limb and joint pain.
If you are worried about your child, always call your GP for advice. One thing you can do right now is make sure you have a digital thermometer to take your child’s temperature.
