The R&D office can run training events for groups of researchers about conducting research in primary care upon request. Please contact the R&D office for further information.

Primary Care Researcher Bursary Scheme 2011/12
Do you work in Primary Care in Norfolk or Suffolk?
Would you like help to develop your research ideas into reality?
A limited number of bursaries are available offering support, both practical and financial, to people working in primary care wishing to develop their research ideas with a view to leading or being part of a team submitting to an eligible funding scheme. These bursaries are currently available for 2011/12.
Two rounds of applications are invited:
- Round 1 – Monday 07 November 2011
- Round 2 – Monday 19 March 2012
The topic of study can use any suitable methodological approach, but must be in primary care, and should relate to a current research priority of your PCT or to an agreed area of health services research.
Recipients of these bursaries will be offered:
- A bursary of £6000 (payable in instalments) which can be used in a number of ways, depending upon the needs of each particular applicant. For example, it could be used to fund protected time of 1 session / week for 6 months to work up proposal and submit a bid to an eligible funding scheme (this can be taken as 2 sessions per week for 3 months); or attendance at relevant training courses such as: applying for a Research for Patient Benefit grant; statistical methods; research methods design; including the public and patients in your research.
- Access to academic and primary care support to guide proposal development.
- Support in applying for selected funding scheme (e.g. costing the proposal and working up the bid).
Recipients of these bursaries will be expected to:
- Submit a full application for funding to an eligible funding scheme within 12 – 18 months of receipt of the bursary.
- Provide regular updates on the progress of their proposal development.
This scheme is open to anyone working in primary care in Norfolk or Suffolk. This includes independent contractors as well as employed staff working for NHS Norfolk (including Norfolk Community Health and Care), NHS Suffolk (including Suffolk Community Health) or NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney (including Provider Services). Applicants will be expected to demonstrate experience of recruitment and hosting research in primary care and/or some knowledge and experience of research methodology.
